“Meet me at the Laima Clock”! (Laimas Pulkstenis) An expression we’re sure you’ll come to say again and again. Since 1924, this art deco-style clock has stood in the very heart of Old Riga. While initially it was installed to help citizens be on time for work, it has since become one of the most popular rendezvous spots for locals and visitors alike.
The name ‘LAIMA’ appeared in 1936; it being the name of the biggest Latvian sweets factory of that time, whose products are still widely known throughout the Baltics today. In Latvian, the word “laimas” translates as happiness. It is around this clock one can see people waiting, then hugging, laughing, smiling and kissing hello. It’s one of the most positive and sentimental places in Riga. So, we invite you to a rendezvous.
