Piragi – Savour these Savory Delights!!
If the word “Latvian” is associated with one certain scent, then first prize would go to the humble pīrāgs. And if there is one way to make your nationality memorable, it is by way of the stomach. These little bacon and onion pastries, smell absolutely divine while baking and taste like heaven when just out of the oven.
While the world over, Piragi baking takes place infrequently, mostly for special occasions or holiday get-togethers, in Latvia, they are readily available every day! Bakeries, from the city to out in the country, offer Piragi as a staple item. A Latvian gets this…it’s as simple as buying a doughnut or croissant. But do not fret, their wanting doesn’t wane should you have them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Truly a humble, savory snack to satisfy anyone’s taste buds.
For those of you who think what?? I should go to Latvia because of the Piragi? We say a resounding yessss!!
